District Council 1707 offers a wide range of classes and workshops to increase the job skills of its members, to prepare the members to take the examinations for state certification for selected positions and to provide greater personal development.
Investment Education
AFSCME members, retirees and staff can gain the knowledge and skills they need for a lifetime of investment and financial success. The Investor Education for Working Families workshops provide bias-free personal investment learning opportunities through self-paced online classes and resource materials specially designed for union members and their families. A solid retirement depends on Social Security, traditional pensions, and personal savings and investments. These workshops help you solidify your personal investing skills.
Shop Stewards Training
Shop Stewards are the eyes and ears of a union and in DC 1707. They make sure that the contract is enforced fairly. If there are problems, it is up to the Shop Steward to file a grievance or resolve the problems through other means.
